It was a hot day today with a high of 94. Instead of riding up and down all those hills through the Pennsylvania a
nd Maryland countryside on
sunbaked roads, we rode west
to the city of York and
picked up the Heritage Rail Trail which took us south 20 miles to the Maryland state line and then became the Northern Central Railroad Trail in Maryland and took us another 20 miles to
Ashland. It was really nice riding the easy railroad grades and enjoying all of the shade. I can't say I love rail trails or would like to ride them day after day, but it made a welcome respite for us today.
We are at the Hampton Inn in Ashland and have about 12 miles to get us back onto the ACA route in Reistertown tomorrow morning, then about 50 more miles to get us to Jodi's sister's house in Bethesda, so it looks like we'll be finishing up tomorrow.
